Job Description

Afni has an exciting opportunity as a Sr. Desktop Engineer that is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating systems of physical and virtual desktops in support of business requirements. You will perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and specific layered software packages as well as create/maintain desktop images. Hardware and software audits of workstations to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines are also a key component to this role.

What you will be doing:

  • Identify deficiencies of both technical issues and business processes, elevates risk to team lead and/or reporting management, and propose innovative solutions. 
  • Work alongside business operations teams, project management teams, and additional IT teams to coordinate work efforts and establish processes. 
  • Perform system software and hardware upgrades and changes; including planning, scheduling, testing, and coordination. 
  • Monitor, measure, and test currentnew infrastructure products and services. 
  • Perform operational, project, and support tasks with little to no supervision, while meeting or exceeding SLAs and performance expectations. 
  • Develop and ensure deployment documentation such as design and environment specifications, user and technical manuals, and process documentation. 
  • Track workload, assign tasks, and mentor junior team members when appropriate.
Requirements

Bring it -- this is what you will need:

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or similar field. Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Five years experience in the field of Desktop Engineering required.
  • Citrix Xendesktop, Citrix Xenapp, and VDI experience required.
  • Citrix Certified Engineer -- Virtualization is preferred.
  • Microsoft SCCM, SCEP, SCOM, or MDT experience required.
  • Microsoft MCSE is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with:
  • Application packaging standards
  • Image management standards
  • Security hardening technologies and concepts
  • Active Directory group policy standards
  • Networking concepts (DHCP, VLANs, ACLs, Firewalls, etc)
  • Proven experience with project management and process improvement
  • ITIL concepts and processes (change management, quality testing, SLAs)
  • Proven engineer experience: research, analysis, planning, and implementation.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to mentor engineers is required. (negotiation, team-building, positive thinking, can-do attitude, and job flexibility)
  • Must be an assertive team player with positive attitude and high energy level.
  • Able to participate in after-hours on-call activities.
